Fish Creek Road & Dechman Drive

Our team provided surveying, engineering, bidding, and construction administration services for this $4.3 million project to replace 4,800 feet of two-lane asphalt road with a variable width concrete road from I-20 to Belt Line Road.

The City did not want to obtain the right-of-way needed to replace the 90-degree bend with a standard centerline radius. After studying alternatives, we designed an innovative chicane on the bend approaches to calm traffic and allow for median landscaping. The design included pavement transitions to add turn lanes at the intersections, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water lines, street lights and retaining walls, as well as a trail. We coordinated the relocation of multiple franchise utilities and presented the project at a public meeting. Right-of-way and easement documents were also prepared.

The City’s goal was to have the new road open to traffic before the opening of a new charter school. To meet this schedule, G&A completed plans ahead of the accelerated 6-month schedule, prepared a scoring matrix for the City’s Competitive Sealed Proposals review, and diligently pursued the franchise utility relocations.
