On this project, LJB addressed traffic safety concerns and designed improvements to deteriorated pavement, drainage, and bicycle/pedestrian facilities on this heavily traveled corridor. LJB initially completed a safety study that evaluated the above average number of crashes at the intersection and identified several countermeasures to address the safety issues.
LJB also designed improvements for the construction project, including pavement resurfacing that incorporated areas of full depth pavement reconstruction, repair/replacement of deteriorated curb/gutter and catch basins, repair/replacement of deteriorated sidewalk segments, added sidewalk width at bus stops, enhanced pavement marking and signage, reconstructed a traffic signal, and upgraded traffic signal, signal timing and intersection lighting.
LJB guided the city to the award of funding that reduced the local match from 40% of construction to only 17%.
