Enterprise-Wide Fixed Ladder Risk Assessment

A large industrial organization engaged LJB to conduct a comprehensive assessment of fixed ladders across multiple facilities to better understand fall risks and prepare for updated OSHA walking-working surface requirements. The project included evaluating permanently installed ladders greater than 24 feet to a lower level and documenting ladder location, height, fall exposure, and potential safety concerns.

At 15 facilities across the United States, our team assessed more than 5,100 fixed ladders, creating a complete inventory and categorizing each ladder based on risk priority. The results identified 748 ladders requiring higher-priority attention, allowing the organization to focus improvements where fall exposure and planning phased upgrades.

By transforming a complex safety challenge into a structured, data-driven program, the assessment provided the client with a clear roadmap for improving ladder safety, allocating resources effectively, and preparing for OSHA’s 2036 fixed ladder fall protection compliance deadline.
