Mercy Hospital (Northern Light Health)

Since 2001, Gorrill Palmer (and LJB Engineering Company) has been a trusted partner in relocating Mercy Hospital (Northern Light Health) to its 48-acre Fore River Campus in Portland, ME. Our team has provided comprehensive engineering and permitting services, helping shape a master plan and securing local, state, and federal approvals for this transformative project.

The $80 million Phase 1, completed in 2008, included a 134,000-square-foot hospital and an 80,000-square-foot medical office building. We played a key role in public presentations, agency coordination, and addressing complex permitting needs, including managing contaminated soil through a MaineDEP VRAP Permit.

In Phase 2, we continue to support the hospital’s full relocation, which includes site design for a 55,000-square-foot hospital expansion, a 32,000-square-foot ambulatory surgical center, and parking for 250 vehicles. Once complete, this campus will provide state-of-the-art healthcare facilities to better serve the community.
